Massage Therapist

I have always loved getting massaged, but I used to not be able to afford it. Massage therapy isn't cheap in any community, and it certainly Isn't something that most people working minimum-wage jobs at video stores get to partake in very often. I decided to take a massage course with my girl friend as a way to be able to benefit from massages whenever I wanted to.  The class was pretty reasonably priced and it took place at the local community college – only a few blocks away from where I worked. It wouldn't make me a full-fledged massage therapist, but it would give me the skills I needed to trade therapeutic massages with my girl.

Eventually, we broke up, but my interest in massage continued to grow. I had never really thought about being a massage therapist before, but I started to think about it all of the sudden. Massage therapists make quite a bit of money if they can get enough work. Massage therapy pays from 40 dollars an hour on up, and if you can work at one of the top centers you can make serious money. There is a lot of competition, but there is also a lot of opportunity. After all, in today's high stress environment, people need massages more than ever.

That very fall I enrolled in a school of massage for the first time. It was a special training program that allowed you to take as many or as few classes as you wanted to. Not everyone in the school was there to be a massage therapist. Some of them just wanted to take a few massage classes to learn the art themselves. That semester I only took one class, but I really loved it. I couldn't wait to get more deeply involved in it. The next year, I enrolled full time. It was a lot of work between my massage courses and my job, but I managed to do it.  I knew that it was what I wanted to do, after all, which made it easier to handle.

Now that I am a full-time massage therapist, I have to say that I'm quite happy with my job. It is a lot of work, but it is also rewarding. I really make people's lives better doing what I do. I've always been told that I have a healing touch, and now that is literally true. Being able to heal people just by putting your hands on them is an amazing thing.

Summary
Becoming a massage therapist can be a very rewarding career choice both financially and emotionally. Learning takes a little time and investment, but the benefits outweigh the costs. If you have ever been told you have a healing touch, you might want to consider a career practicing the art of massage.
