Los Angeles Community College


Being able to access first class local educational facilities is so important to a community. The Los Angeles Community College District is an excellent network of nine colleges, used by college age and mature students. This facility is the largest of its kind in the USA and one of the largest anywhere in the world.

One of the colleges, the East Los Angeles College, is located near Monterey Park. It offers Associate Degree programs across 25 departments, covering academic and occupational subjects. The Los Angeles City College is in the heart of Hollywood and several famous movie stars are former students, including James Coburn, Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman. The areas of study include Health Care, Technology, Child Development, Entertainment, and The Arts. One of the other members of the Los Angeles Community College District is the Los Angeles Harbor College. More than 8,000 students attend each semester and departments include Computer Technology, Nursing and Business Administration.

The Los Angeles Mission College, in the San Fernando Valley, has a wide range of opportunities to study various subjects, including Chemistry, Microbiology, Zoology, Journalism, English, and Geography. It is the youngest college of the Los Angeles Community College District. Los Angeles Pierce College, also in San Fernando Valley, offers academic subjects in addition to agricultural studies. There is a farm with livestock and a botanical garden to aid students. Sporting amenities are good here and baseball and football players are on the list of alumni.

The Los Angeles Trade-Technical College puts the emphasis on two-year degree programs in vocational subjects including Fashion Design, Automotive Technology, Culinary Arts, and Construction Technology. This part of the Los Angeles Community College District is situated in the South Park area. The Valley Glen District is the location for Los Angeles Valley College, another college that boasts famous graduates, including former Monkee, Micky Dolenz and actor, Tom Selleck.

Los Angeles Southwest College, in the southern part of the city, offers preparation for students transferring to university along with technology subjects. West Los Angeles College is in Culver City and offers Associate Degrees and 18 vocational subjects. This is one of the best colleges for sport within the Los Angeles Community College network and has several competitive teams. The area is served well with all the colleges and the subjects covered are comprehensive. They also offer the students the opportunity to socialize and pursue sporting ambitions, whilst making use of the amenities.
