The movie industry is one of the most competitive and anyone wanting to have a career in it must stand out from the crowd. Graduating from LA Film School is an excellent start. Founded in 1999, the school is located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, the heart of movies. Students enjoy the finest facilities and receive tuition that mixes academia with the practical skills that are needed in the workplace. Art and science come together in the varied curriculum during one-year intensive courses. Instructors include prominent technical people from the Hollywood studios.

The location is inspirational and the tutors have a wealth of experience. The Associate of Science in Film Degree Program covers many disciplines, including Directing, Producing, Production Design and Screenwriting. Technical and creative skills, such as Cinematography, Editing, Lighting and Sound Recording are also taught. There are also courses on Computer Animation and Game Production.

Making films is a big priority at the Los Angeles Film School. Even students in their first week of admission are presented with a video camera and told to make a short film. They are given every assistance and have 24-hour access to the post-production facilities. Film projects are shot on campus or around the LA area. The school has up to the minute equipment with regard to cameras, the editing suite and sound recording systems. The school is supported by professionals in the movie world, a number of which have visited LA Film School to meet the students. They include directors and actors, such as Wes Craven, Oliver Stone, Faye Dunaway, and Billy Bob Thornton.

The school is non-residential and a lot of students live in rented accommodation, close by. Candidates can find out about the financial packages available at the Financial Aid Department. Even with a degree, the outside world is a frightening place and the staff at the LA Film School does its best to prepare graduates. The Career Development Department advises on making that move to a job. Students can participate in the Career Development Curriculum to work on specific skills relating to job hunting. Instructors give guidance on writing a resume, what to do at an interview, the art of pitching an idea and how to network in the industry effectively.

Anyone interested in enrolling can fill in an application form online. Candidates only need to have graduated High School and no experience in film is required. Overseas students are very welcome, providing they have the appropriate Student Visa. The same criteria applies to the Game Production and Computer Animation program. Candidates are encouraged to visit the campus before applying. This is a chance to meet the staff and view the facilities. A tour must be booked in advance and they operate daily on Mondays through Fridays.
