How To Become A Fashion Designer


Ever since I was in junior high, it's been my dream to become a fashion designer. I have always had a good eye for clothing designs, and can instantly tell if something "works" or not. Plus, I've also been designing and sewing my own creations since I was a teenager, so this is definitely the career for me.

The good thing about knowing exactly what I want to do with my life is that I can get a head start on figuring out which steps I have to take in order to achieve my goals. In fact, I've been researching what kind of qualifications I need to become a fashion designer for quite some time now, and am finally in a position to start sending out applications to top design schools.

There are actually a number of schooling options available to those aspiring to become a fashion designer. First of all, there's the traditional college route, where students go to a regular college or university of their choice, and take a lot of classes related to the industry. This option appealed to me because of the flexibility involved, since I could go to virtually any school out there, but at the same time, I didn't want to waste money taking a bunch of science or humanities classes that were required for graduation.

A better route open to those who want to become a fashion designer is to go to an art school where the entire focus of your education will be on design techniques and concepts. This is what I've decided to do, because I'm interested in working with instructors who are professional designers themselves and know what it takes to succeed in the industry. Moreover, I want my fellow students to be just as serious and passionate about clothing design as I am so that I can start to build a valuable network of contacts as soon as possible.

Of course, even if you're already established in a different career, there's still a chance for you to become a fashion designer if that has always been your dream. There are many quality online study programs available that would allow you to work towards your design certificate or degree without giving up your day job. Then once you receive your qualifications, you can change careers without missing a beat.

As I said, I've already decided which schools I want to apply to, and am currently getting my application materials ready to send out. I know it will take a lot of hard work and dedication to become a fashion designer, but I'm definitely up to the challenge. All of this extra effort will be worth it when it leads to a career that I'll truly love!
